Hello and Welcome! I’m Jumi!

About me

My name is Jumi Baek, and I live in Seoul, Korea. I am a crafter who loves card making, scrapbooking, stamps, and dies. After using the Cuttlebug machine in 2012, I fell in love with paper crafting. At first, I just bought a Cuttlebug because I was curious about embossing on paper. As many crafters already know, I first needed and purchased a few stamps, then some dies… Then I became obsessed with crafty things, and now my place is full of crafty things. I used Bigshot after Cuttlebug, then Bigshot Plus, and now I mostly use Gemini Junior.

I majored in architecture. I lived in Chicago for 5 years (from 2006 to 2011) for my master’s degree in architectural design and professional experiences. When I visited Chicago in 2017, a lot had changed since I lived there, but I think it will have changed even more now. When I lived in Chicago, winters with strong winds and snow were really cold and unbearable, but now I miss Chicago’s summer days. I always miss Chi-town so much, and it’s my second home. And now, with my Ph.D. in architectural engineering, I’m working as a researcher in the field of sustainable buildings.

I always like to try new things, enjoy traveling, talk about the things I like, and give others cards and handmade gifts I’ve made. On my blog, I want to share some of my favorite things, especially about paper crafting.

I’m a Christian

Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9

My favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:8. When I went to study abroad in the United States, this verse was given to me by God, and it gave me strength and guidance when I was afraid or in difficulties. Even when I am exhausted and suffering, I believe in my God, who is looking at me in pain more than I am.

What does the blog name JJUMSCAN:D mean?

JJUMS is my nickname. Since I was little, my family and friends have called me JJUM.
This is a short and strong call to only the first part of the name Jumi. And around the time I was an undergraduate, my friends started calling me JJUMS by adding an S to JJUM.
CAN:D is pronounced in the same way as the word candy. CAN literally means “can” in English. D means to make a “design,” and 😀 (:D) means “smile.”
JJUMSCAN:D stands for JJUMS + CAN + DESIGN = SMILE.
It means that the designs I (Jumi or JJUMS) created can make others smile and be happy.
I hope everyone who visits this blog can always smile and be happy! 😀
